Portfolio Reflection
Multiplane Scroll Scene
In this
project we learned how to create a 2d animation by making the scene move and
not characters in Adobe After Effects. We learned these skills by demos shown
by Mr. Netterville and by self teaching. I picked this project because I feel
it was one of the ones we had the most creative liberty for and I feel this
turned out pretty good. I very much like the trees and the gradually increasing
details that were added to said trees as they got closer to the screen. however,
I feel that the animals in the background are a bit out of place especially the
bird that is just flying whilst not flapping its wings. I feel like I could fix
these things if I went back and edited this project. Hopefully I will be able
to use these skills to create more animations like this one. if I could change
anything I would change again the silhouette animals in the background. In
conclusion this has been one of my favorite animation projects so far.
Maya Castle
In this project we learned how to model various
shapes and apply different textures to said shapes in Maya. We learned this
through a helpful sheet, a couple of demos from Mr. Netterville, and various
help from our peers. I picked this project because it was one of the first
projects that we did in Maya this year and it gave us a certain amount of
creative freedom for choosing the various textures and designs. I feel the
model turned out pretty well however the gateway was very tedious to make due
to a few pixels that were off from the inside of the castle walls. I have
figured out that in order to avoid such messes to keep every piece linear and
the same size as one another. Hopefully I will never make the same mistake in
the future. if I could change anything I would add a bit more detail to the
castle, compared to my classmates my castle is pretty bland shape wise. In
conclusion this project was enjoyable and educational.
Story Animation
In this
project we compiled everything we had learned about 2d animation in Adobe After
Effects into one project with a story. we learned everything about Adobe After
Effects through PDF sheets, Mr. Netterville, and through figuring it out on our
own. I picked this project because by far it had the most creative liberty out
of any of the projects done so far because it was our own stories that we came
up with. I feel like the story and the character designs were pretty solid
however when it came down to the actual animation of it all I felt it was too
overwhelming and the walk cycle turned out terribly bad. I have learned more
about walk cycles and will maybe go back and fix this someday. With what I have
learned I am hoping to be able to create more After Effects Animations in the
future. If I could change anything again I would change the walk cycle to look
better. In conclusion this project was fun and summative of everything we had
learned so far, But I would like to fix it someday.
Walk Cycle/ Character Animation
In this
project we learned how to create a walk cycle and how to scan hand drawn things
onto the computer to be animated. We learned this through Mr. Netterville’s demos.
I picked this project because I am pretty proud of how it turned out in the
design of the Character. I feel the character and the walk cycle were good
however there is something that bothers me, you can see during the walk cycle
that there is a small black dot that rotates with his legs. With what I have
learned I was able to create the story animation walk cycle. If I could change
anything I would go back and get rid of that small black dot it is very
annoying.
Ice Cream Spinning Animation
In this
project we learned how to model ice cream cones, ice cream and various other
ice cream shop-esk things, and how to animate things in Maya. We learned this
through a helpful PDF file and Mr. Netterville's guidance. I picked this
project because I feel it turned out very good. Especially the smooth
animation. I feel like the modeling and animation turned out well in this
project however if I anything could be changed I would add a bit more depth to
the cone. With what I have learned I should be able to create more Maya
animations. If I could change anything again I would fix the cone.
