They loved your GPA, Then they saw your tweets, Blogpo
In this article Natasha singer a journalist for the New York Times researches and talks about how the things that you post on social media could negatively impact your college or job application seeing as Admissions officers and employers check the social media sites of the applying person.
in this article there were many things that caught me off guard and or surprised me such as in the article when it states " at brookline high school in Massachusetts, juniors are taught to delete alcohol related posts or photographs and to create socially acceptable email adresses. one juniors original email address was "bleedingJesus," This caught me completely off guard who would do such a thing to begin with let alone the internet.
There were also a few things that confused me whilst i read this article. to start with "we thought, this is not the ind of person we want in our community." Angel B. Perez, Pitzer's dean of admission and financial aid, told me. with about 4200 applicants annually for a first year class of 250 students, the school can afford to be selective". This confused me because i thought the way colleges work was that the more people they had the more money they got from tuition.
After i have read and examined the article i feel this will not affect my social media very much because most of this i already know its common sense really not to make yourself look bad in front of people and why not do that on the internet too. I only use social media to connect with family and friends that live farther away. i hope that this article has helped someone to change their social media before its too late.
