End of Year Reflection - Web 2018

Reflection 2018

This year in Web Design has been spent forming deeper relationships with not only the other Juniors, but also with the seniors and Mr. Olson who are leaving.  Through these relationships i have learned many things from Technical skills to leadership over the length of this year in e-Communication. 

Technology

Ive learned so many new technical skills this year. More HTML, More CSS, Wordpress, PHP, Parallaxes, Greater general design skills, and even some Javascript. A good example of these new HTML and CSS skills in action would be my entry to e-Magine this year. I created a website from scratch over how to more effectively learn a language. I also created the background to this website myself by putting together the home countries of the worlds most spoken languages.  Technological skills are very important in the realm of web design because, it allows you to channel the design aspects into something that works correctly. For this Project however i did have a few hardships to overcome. For starters the background was just too red. So many countries have some kind of red in their flag, so i needed to find a way for the rest of the page to contrast against that. 

Collaboration

Due to the friendship made between both the seniors and juniors, the seniors were able to create a wonderful website dedicated to Mr. Olson. Normally Web Design is more of a solo - work on your own - kind of strand, But this website brought together not only the current Web Students but also students and teachers of other strands of the e-comm program. Even though i didn't do that much i feel honored to have been apart of this. 

Communication

Communication is also one of those things that is very important but is rarely used in the Web Design strand as solo work is more often done. However when it comes to communicating with clients on potential endorsement projects it is the most important thing there is. I got the opportunity this year to work on a endorsement project, However because it came in so late i am hoping to continue it next year. Communication will be key to this happening. 

Project management 

Project is simple but it is very important. Organization has never really been my strong suit but i feel like this year has been different. I've made an effort to change my work ethic to make sure that everything in every class not just Web Design is completed on time and with the most of my effort. However that doesn't mean that there weren't any struggles along the way. I got pretty sick multiple times this year which caused me to miss classes and fall behind, However this could've been way worse if i hadn't been organized in the first place. 

Leadership

Again, because Web Design is more of a independent strand it is very rare for collaboration to take place. However this year i have learned from the seniors that next year our leadership may be needed. I am hoping to expand my leadership skills for that very purpose. 

Strengths & Weaknesses 

This year i felt like i have learned a lot of things. I feel like my technical skills have definitely improved and I've become more socially open to others. However leadership is still a problem, Because i have always been used to others being the leader, i haven't really experienced being the leader myself. 

What's next?

with all that i have learned this year i'm hoping to use it on endorsement projects next year. I also want to build on the knowledge that i have learned this year to make it even greater. My goal next year is to due well in e-Magine and senior show. 

Conclusion 

In conclusion i have learned a lot of things this year. From Technology to Social skills. I have also learned that nothing great can stay forever. You'll be missed Seniors and Mr. Olson!!!!
